Abstract

From the twentieth century the relationship of photography and architecture assumes a new role; two independent disciplines start working together to subsequently merge into one. On the one hand, architecture is considered as a compositional medium, where photography transcends while the former behaves as a photographic object. On the other hand, photography is meant to be an essential tool in the construction of the collective imagination for the promotion of architecture. Photography collaborated in the consolidation of some of the masters of modern architecture, in which the joint work of architect and photographer produced outstanding media phenomena with international success. Among them is the figure of the architect Le Corbusier as a photographer during his first phase, as well as the photographer Julius Shulman working alongside the Case Study Houses Program.
