The other side of modernity and what Lina Bo Bardi found there

This article analyzes the professional career and some of the major works of architect Lina Bo Bardi. It aims to reveal how, through her architecture, she developed a form of modernity closer to the local context. This led her to move between the modern avant-garde and vernacular culture, focusing on a dynamic regionalism. This will allow us to understand the principles that governed her architectural thinking, drawn from popular culture and based on the vindication of artisanal processes, the use of local materials and construction techniques, and the development of practices that favor the recycling of elements. All of this will ultimately lead us to an understanding of the innovative work Bo Bardi developed through the adaptive reuse of buildings and urban neighborhoods, which marked the beginning of sustainable design in modern Brazilian architecture in the late 1970s.
