Author Guidelines

The rules and requirements that authors must follow when submitting articles to Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa are detailed below.

Receipt of articles

The receipt of originals takes place permanently —through the journal's platform— and is free of charge. The calls will be duly communicated and broadcasted in the Announcements section.

To start submitting articles, authors must register or log in (if they already have an existing account).

The journal does not charge fees for the processing of papers or for the publication of articles.

For any questions or inconvenience, contact us via email cuadernosie@ort.edu.uy

Publication frequency

The journal is published digitally and with open access. It is of continuous publication: all accepted articles are immediately incorporated into the website, with the idea that they are quickly visible and quotable.

It is compiled twice a year and the manuscripts received are collected in a semi-annual issue.

Content of the articles

The journal receives and publishes original articles in Spanish and English, referring to diverse educational contexts and levels, among which the contributions of research projects with empirical evidence stand out (Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa gives priority to this kind of proposal), as well as literature reviews with critical and reflective results on the advances of a certain topic that account for relevant findings that are of interest to the regional and international scientific community.

The articles may deal with different topics, such as educational innovation, skills and competencies for learning, educational policies, evaluation in education, teacher training and professional development, management and governance of the educational system, digitization and gamification, immersive and inclusive pedagogies, competency-based curriculum, professional learning communities, digital citizenship, and futures studies.

As a general rule, the papers must deal with a topic of relevance and constitute a notable contribution to the field of educational research; include a structured, coherent text, easy for readers to understand; carry out an in-depth review of the subject of study (have updated, original and fundamental bibliography both regionally and internationally); have a consistent and solid methodology, appropriate for the proposed objectives; and detail relevant and powerful results and conclusions.

Submission of files

Authors must submit three files:

1. Article

It must be in Microsoft Word (“.doc” or “.docx”) or OpenOffice (“.odt”) electronic format. It is important to ensure that the papers are completely anonymized and that there is no information that allows the identity of the authors to be recognized.

2. Authors' responsibility document: in which they accept the journal's policies and, in particular, general aspects of copyright.

Other considerations

Evaluation

All articles are subject to a double-blind peer review, in accordance with international standards. The peer review system consists of appointing reviewers who are experts on the subject. In order to evaluate the article in a confidential and anonymous way, the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers, nor do the reviewers know the identity of the authors.

In the evaluation process, the reviewers complete a review sheet, in which, in addition to justifying their decision, they adopt one of the following resolutions:

  • accept and publish in its current form;
  • publish after corrections; or
  • reject the proposal and not publish.

Among the criteria for the acceptance or rejection of papers, the following aspects will be considered: presentation, wording and organization of the information, originality, relevance for the resolution of specific problems, topicality and novelty, significance for the advancement of scientific knowledge and methodological quality.
