Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa is an Ibero-American journal of continuous, scientific and refereed publication, whose purpose is to promote academic debate and contribute to the dissemination of research in the educational field from various theoretical and methodological perspectives.
It receives and publishes original articles in Spanish and English, referring to diverse educational contexts and levels, among which the contributions of research projects with empirical evidence stand out, as well as literature reviews with critical and reflective results on the advances of a certain topic that account for relevant findings that are of interest to the regional and international scientific community.
The articles may deal with different topics, such as educational innovation, skills and competencies for learning, educational policies, evaluation in education, teacher training and professional development, management and governance of the educational system, digitalization and gamification, immersive and inclusive pedagogies, competency-based curriculum, professional learning communities, digital citizenship and future studies.
The journal is published digitally, with open access. It is of continuous publication, compiled twice a year and the manuscripts received are brought together in a semi-annual issue. Likewise, the contributions are subject to a double-blind peer review process.
Published by the Institute of Education of Universidad ORT Uruguay, Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa does not charge fees for the processing and publication of papers.
Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa is an open access publication which provides free and immediate access to its content and all its editions, free of charge for the authors and readers.

The authors who publish in Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa retain their copyright and intellectual property rights. This means that they have the power to reproduce, publish, translate, adapt and, in short, use their work after the initial publication in this journal. In this sense, the authors also give the journal the right to the first publication of their work.
By submitting their article to Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa the authors agree that their manuscript be published on the revistas.ort.edu.uy site, with open access. They also commit themselves to signing the Authors' responsibility document, an essential requirement for the publication of the article.
The content of the articles is the sole responsibility of their authors and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Editorial Team or the reviewers.
Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa uses the Turnitin plagiarism prevention system in order to detect potential non-original content.
This process takes place in the first editorial assessment, prior to the appointment of reviewers and to the peer review. In the event that the reviewers suggest modifications, the document will be analyzed again, before the final acceptance of the manuscript.
If during the process there are doubts about the results of the Turnitin reports, the authors will be contacted to make the corresponding clarifications and changes. If plagiarism is identified and confirmed, the article will not be published.
The journal considers a manuscript to be original when it is unpublished, that is, when it has not been published in any scientific journal nor is it under evaluation in another publication. The articles may originate from theses, conference papers or research documents. However, an article is not considered to be unpublished when it has been previously published as part of a digital or printed publication.
Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa accepts articles that have been published as preprints. In that case, authors must specify in the Additional file where and when the preprint was published and include the assigned DOI. It should be noted that such articles will undergo the usual quality controls established by the journal, and the manuscripts will be subject to double-blind peer review.
In the event that an article originates from a thesis, conference communication, or other type of research, the authors are requested to include an explanatory note in which they mention the first place where the manuscript was presented. In no case may the work keep the same title as its first version.
The journal complies with the code of ethics and the declaration of good editorial practices established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).
Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa has an Editorial Team, an international Scientific Committee and a team of reviewers formed by specialized researchers in each of the specific thematic areas. All the parties involved in the publication know and practice the principles established by COPE for good editorial practices.
The rights of editors and authors, compliance with publication regulations and other rights and obligations are handled directly by the deputy editor, together with the legal advisors of Universidad ORT Uruguay. For any questions, please direct communications to Andrea Castro Marcucci (castro_ac@ort.edu.uy). Metrics, indexing and metadata are independently managed by the deputy editor.
At the same time, Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa keeps strict control over the compliance with editorial ethics, as well as with the assessments made by external reviewers.
In response to this and in accordance with the provisions of COPE, the protocol for the investigation of an alleged infringement is followed, which in general terms means:
The editors will be responsible for applying the defined measures. If the lack of ethics is verified, the article will be rejected. If it has already been published, the article will be removed from the corresponding issue and a retraction will be made. Consequently, the author will not be able to publish again in the journal.
Receipt of articles
The journal accepts manuscripts through the Open Journal System (OJS) platform. The articles must be anonymized and the data of the authors have to be sent in a different document (for more information see Author Guidelines), which will be used if the article is approved, in order to maintain the anonymity and transparency of the editorial process. It should be noted that the receipt of an article does not imply its acceptance.
First editorial assessment
Once the authors send the article to the journal, the Editorial Team makes a first assessment. On the one hand, the adequacy of the work to the thematic profile of the journal, to the editorial criteria and to the formal requirements for submitting the manuscript is verified. On the other hand, an anti-plagiarism review is made using the Turnitin tool, in order to detect potential non-original content. In an average of 15 days after receiving the article, the editor will notify the authors if it will start the evaluation process or if it will be rejected (the term may have a slight variation according to the number of articles received by Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa).
At this stage, the Editorial Team also verifies that the authors have sent the anonymized article, the author´s responsibility document and the additional file with all the information requested in the Author Guidelines.
Peer review
In the review stage, which lasts approximately a total of 60 days, the Editorial Team invites the reviewers to carry out the review of the manuscript.
All articles are subject to a double-blind peer review, in accordance with international standards. The peer review system consists of appointing reviewers who are experts in the subject. In order to evaluate the article in a confidential and anonymous way, the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers, nor do the reviewers know the identity of the authors.
Feedback from the reviewers to the authors lasts an average of 15 to 30 days per review round and may require several iterations to make the noted changes. For each paper, the reviewers complete a review sheet, in which, in addition to justifying their decision, they adopt one of the following resolutions:
Among the criteria for the acceptance or rejection of papers, the following aspects will be considered: presentation, wording and organization of the information, originality, relevance for the resolution of specific problems, topicality and novelty, significance for the advancement of scientific knowledge, and methodological quality.
In case of discrepancy in the opinions, the text will be sent to a third reviewer. Then the Editorial Team will define whether or not the paper will be published in the journal.
As the review process is considered to be constructive and formative, regardless of whether the papers are finally approved, the Editorial Team will try to send the authors the review sheet and/or the article with comments so that they enrich their academic production in future instances.
Modifications and resolutions
Once the reviewers make the decision, the editor will transmit the resolution to the author who is responsible for the communication with the journal. More precisely, the editor will inform him/her if the article was accepted and will be published in its current form, if it will be published after corrections, or if it will be rejected and not published.
The authors have a maximum term of 15 days to make changes and send the new version of their work. After that time, the article will be considered as a new submission.
The final acceptance of the manuscript is conditional on the authors incorporating all the modifications and suggestions for improvement proposed by the reviewers (if any).
The submission of a document or table detailing and explaining the changes made will be valued positively.
Copy editing and layout
In the following months, the copy-editing process in Spanish, English and Portuguese will take place. The layout of the article will be done so as to be included in the journal's website.
Cuadernos de Investigación Educativa is a journal of continuous publication, therefore, all the accepted articles are immediately incorporated into the website, with the idea that they are quickly visible and quotable.
The manuscripts that are received and approved in the peer review and by the Editorial Team are compiled twice a year.
